So Where Winds Meet finally launched, and after spending some time getting my character up to level 24, I wanted to share my impressions while everything is still fresh. This is very much a first-look review, not a full deep dive, but here’s how the early game feels so far.

What Kind of Game Is It?

Where Winds Meet is an open-world wuxia MMORPG that blends martial-arts fantasy, exploration, and action-focused combat. It has been out in China since December 27, 2024, so even though the global version just released, you can immediately feel that there is already a large amount of content packed into the game.

Early Combat Impressions

I’ll write a fuller breakdown once I’ve played more, but so far the combat feels good. The game leans into fast movement, flashy abilities, and that classic wuxia sense of soaring through the air and chaining skills. I haven’t unlocked enough depth yet to give a full verdict, but the foundation seems smooth and promising.

I do wish I could skip dialogue conversations, though. When you’re leveling quickly, these slow the pace more than expected.

Online and Multiplayer (Unlocks at Level 10)

Once you hit level 10, the online portion opens up and it works a bit differently from most MMOs. Instead of a wide-open shared world, you get lobbies that act as hubs for multiplayer challenges. You can:

  • Join co-op challenge rooms
  • Invite friends
  • Fight shared bosses
  • Take on group tasks and events

It’s a unique structure for an MMO and pretty fun to jump into.

Update: PvP vs. PvE at Level 24

After reaching level 24, I decided to dip my toes into the PvP side of the game. Unfortunately, this is where my excitement took a hit. The combat, which feels fluid and fun in PvE, seems to lose its charm in PvP. It feels a bit boring and lacks the tactical depth needed to make player-versus-player encounters engaging.

If you are looking for a game with cool, skill-based PvP combat, this is probably not it. However, if you are a PvE player, Where Winds Meet has a lot of content to offer. The world is huge, there are tons of quests, and the exploration feels rewarding. It shines as a PvE-focused experience.

The Shop

There are lots of skills and progression options to explore, and the shop leans into that heavily. The funniest part is that you can actually pay real money for skins that change your skill effects. Not character skins, but skill effect skins. It was unexpected, but at least it’s cosmetic.

Looking Ahead

Since I’m only level 24, there’s still a lot I can’t comment on yet. With the Chinese version having more than a year of updates, I expect the world to open up a lot more as I progress.

For now, I’ll keep playing, exploring, unlocking systems, and seeing how deep this wuxia MMO really goes.

Final Thought

If you’re searching for a new PvE-focused MMO to try, something fresh, fast, and stylish, Where Winds Meet is worth checking out. Give it a try and see if it fits your style.
